Are you ready for this climb?! It might help your kids expend some of their energy, ready for the many different sensory experiences on this geographically small walk!

This tour provides history, art, architecture and politics exploring one of the historic Seven Hills of Rome, the Campidoglio or the Capitoline Hill, which gets its name from a Temple to Jupiter that was once here. After we find the Goddess of Rome, you can run around in the stunning Campidoglio square designed by the Renaissance genius Michelangelo, with the reproduction of the bronze Roman statue of Marcus Aurelius on his horse (you’ll see the original in the museum), as well as a Roman block of flats, and you’ll look over the Roman Forum – it is quite a view!

We will go into the historic Basilica of Santa Maria in Araceli, or St Mary of the Altar of Heaven, founded in the 6th century CE and rebuilt in the 1200s and see, amongst other things, the relics of Saint Helena the mother of Emperor Constantine who made Christianity the religion of the Roman Empire (If you’ve got loads of energy you could have a race up and down the 124 steps that were built in 1348 to commemorate the Black Death). You’ll finish off with the Capitoline Museums, a child-friendly museum dedicated to Ancient Rome, in which you will see the symbol of Rome – the statue of the She-Wolf who rescued Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. You’ll finish up on the terrace at the top of the Museums for refreshments and a wonderful view.

Do your children want to do a bit of ghost-hunting in this wonderful and mysterious building? Well, even if you don't see any real ghosts, this tour will help make the ancient world come to life for you - you only need to bring your imagination!

Castel Sant’Angelo is an extraordinary place - mysterious and full of ghosts - that is sure to fire the imagination of your little ones. In the 2nd century CE it was built as a tomb for the Roman Emperor Hadrian, but it had a second, very unusual function as an astronomical device, basically you can use the building to study the stars…but you’ll find out more about that on the tour!

The building was incorporated into the Roman Walls surrounding the city in 280CE, and later on it was used by the Popes as a Renaissance palace full of treasures, an impregnable fortress, a prison and as the seat for the terrifying Inquisition Tribunals, prosecuting people who challenged the authority of the Catholic Church. You will also get wonderful views from the terrace and battlements (and a bar for refreshments) before a short walk past Renaissance palaces to get to St. Peter’s Square to appreciate the architecture (from the outside) of St Peter’s Basilica and hear some more about the history of the Papacy.

Tickets not included: Tickets needed for Castel Sant’Angelo. You can find pricing information here, but please contact us before purchase so we can find the best way of doing things.
Meeting Point: hotel or exit of Ottaviano Metro Station (linea A), by the green newspaper kiosk.

Ostia Antica is definitely worth a visit - there is something for everyone in your family to enjoy and much more navigable with a knowledgable tour guide.

Ostia Antica is known as the Pompei of Rome and you need a full day to really appreciate it’s wonders. The day starts with a 20 minute train ride from central Rome on which we will see the views from the train and start finding about some of the history of Rome. Ostia Antica was the was the first Roman Colony and a busy, vibrant port city for Ancient Rome from the

The ruins we see include people’s homes, shops, public baths, bars and taverns, Ostia’s own Forum for politics, a theatre for entertainment and a trading space for the merchants, and all this will show Ostia Antica as a real, working, Ancient Roman town, a melting pot of different races, cultures, religions and foods.
